ASSET & W worked in partnership with NERLP (North-East Rural Livelihood Project) formed under the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India. It was a World Bank funded project spread across the four North Eastern States of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The partnership commenced in March 2017, focused towards developing goat clusters as a source of rural livelihood across 3,600 households in the southern and western districts of Sikkim.

Development of Enterprises and Cooperatives.
A cadre of community resource persons, called Community Service Providers (CSP) and Pashu-Sakhis were developed. While Pashu-Sakhis were able to improve accessibility of timely animal well-being services at the doorstep of targeted households, CSP’s were developed to mobilize the community towards collectivization.
During the project, 50 community resource persons were developed in the form of 30 CSPs and 20 Pashu Sakhis (Community Agro-Vet Entrepreneurs). All of these were women who contributed to increased household income and this, in turn, led to their increased empowerment.
As production increased through improved animal resource management, communities were imparted training in business and marketing skills. Household and community level business plans were developed.
Exposure visits to functioning Farmer Producer Organizations were organized to promote adoption of best practices for higher returns and sustainability.
