We strive to make the world better than the day before. Living out our Cornerstones teaches us to look inward and examine ourselves as we work to fulfill Heifer’s mission. And that ripple effect goes a lot farther than us. It filters attitudes and behaviors for lasting change around the world. All project participants take part in training around the Cornerstones, establishing a set of common values between them at the beginning of the partnership.
The Cornerstones for just and sustainable development are the fundamental values that we apply to our projects. Cornerstones help people's hearts, thoughts, and behaviors stay balanced, focused, and productive by stimulating communal understanding and personal discoveries. Project participants learn the attitudes, behaviours, and abilities they need to improve their lives and transform their communities by using the Cornerstones as a framework.
These ideals are encapsulated in the acronym PASSING GIFTS, which echoes the basic Cornerstone that distinguishes and sustains our projects. Combining personal leadership with the Cornerstones allows participants to identify how their personal values align with the project's. At the start of their partnership, they exchange values with Cornerstones Training.
